SERVIEN CHAPEL

Under the name Servien lived an aromanian family in Novi Sad, which founded one of the earliest scholarship funds. This fund has educated many well-known members of Serbian intelligence. Dervishes of the Services were Đurkovići, and often Đorđevići also wrote. The brothers Aksentije and Manojlo have been mentioned in 1751 as wealthy merchants, and in 1774, after the death of Aksenti, his son Marko was mentioned as a prominent member of the masters. Marko inherited the great wealth of his father and increased it by purchasing Turkey’s Kanjiža (today’s Novi Kneževac) and noble titles. In 1793, he gave one of the most beautiful castles in Vojvodina in Novi Kneževac. Markov’s personality and great desire to help as much as possible educates his people speaks of his testament from 1792 with which he established a scholarship endowment for the education of young people. He was among the first founders of the scholarship endowment with the Serbs and the Greek Cincar. On September 28, 1793, Marko Servikov made a complement to his testament in front of envoys of the magistrates, which first recognized his will, and then made other legacies. Marko Servi died on January 6, 1794 in Novi Sad, and was buried in the port of the Orthodox church in Novi Kneževac, from where he was later transferred to a family chapel at the cemetery.from where he was later transferred to the family chapel at the cemetery.from where he was later transferred to the family chapel at the cemetery.
Marko had a son, George, who, as a vow and obligation to his father, continued the scholarship endowment “Stipendarius Serviiskianus” and, accordingly, called him a “Serbian patron”. The renowned names of our Serbian intelligentsia were taught from the scholarship service of Servios. One of the well-known users was the poet Lukić Mušićki, who, in gratitude on July 31, 1820, singed a poem dedicated to Mark Servius. Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic asked, through Pavle Šafarić, a scholarship for his son Sava, but he responded to this in writing, saying that he would speak to Servioski, “but hopefully something is hopeful, because the crowd is big.”
On the court of the Services there were many famous names from the cultural and public life – painters Georgija Popović and Nikola Aleksić, who painted the Orthodox church in Novi Kneževac, followed by the poet Jovan Jovanović Zmaj, who was born in the “small house of Servis” in Novi Sad 1833 . years.
The Chapel Servicum in the southeastern part of the Orthodox cemetery in Novi Kneževac was erected with funds of the Servion of the Servile, eighties of the XIX century in the style of eclecticism, with dominant elements of neo-geotics. It was built of solid stone and brick materials. Rectangular is a base with a high ceiling in which, in the south and north sides, in a recessed area there is a narrow, vertically arranged window. The angles are marked pilasters resting on a stone base. The entrance to the chapel is from the west side, across the stairs. Above the gates, the gloom ends with a gothic broken bow, and the protector of iron is made with the symbolic representation of the sun, the “Unseen Eye” and the centrally placed cross. The holes around the holes with the broken arch are mildly profiled, and above the top of the arches the coat of arms of the Family Servion is made in a shallow relief. On the opposite side is the entrance to the crypt of the semicircular ending, the flanked pilasters supporting the door centrally set up by the risalite with the cross. Above is one okulus. On the north and south façade, there is one window with a “stone quadrangular flower” located in the broken port itself. The windows are with a protector made of iron and with a soft foam. The found fragments of colorful glass indicate that there were stained glass windows. The balustrade of stone stairs and pointed arches with the motif of “triple clover” is broken up on the friable and concealed façade. It is connected with four corner pillars, which are multi-faceted, decorated with motifs of stone plastic, with a cap on top. Inside there is a cross vault. On the north and south façade, there is one window with a “stone quadrangular flower” located in the broken port itself.
